Meet the Board
Marc Charrier
Marc Charrier is a lawyer at Muttarts Law Firm in Kentville. Raised in Westville, Pictou County, he graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Arts (History). He did post-grad studies at Dalhousie University prior to earning a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick. Marc also studied towards a Master of Laws at Osgoode Hall.
Marc Charrier was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2006 where his practice had an emphasis in family law, child protection law, immigration and refugee law, and general litigation. He has appeared before various courts, tribunals and boards, including the Federal Court, Human Rights tribunals, and labour boards. He was called to the Bar of Nova Scotia in 2015 and since then has practiced in Kentville. Marc has a keen interest in health law and volunteers with various health boards as well as community-oriented organizations. He enjoys the performing arts and has appeared many times in Centrestage Theatre productions (Kentville) as well as the annual Fezziwig Christmas Show (Wolfville). Marc is proud of his Acadian roots, and is functional in French and American Sign Language.
Brian Harris
Brian Harris is from Morristown, NS and continues to work as a self-employed contractor in his home and surrounding communities. Brian is a grounded, practical person who is invested in bringing a first hand, family perspective to his position on the Board.
Brian Harris continues to work actively in his 45 year carpentry career managing his own business. Brian is actively involved in his home community serving as a Director on the Morristown Community Club. He is a Trustee at the Morristown Baptist Church and also loans his carpentry expertise to maintaining it. He is an avid woodsman, dart and cribbage player and grandfather to four. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family at his lakefront property that he developed with his wife, Linda.
Greg Hubbert
Greg is a retired elementary school teacher He has been an active community volunteer, coaching youth soccer as well as involvement as an anti-poverty activist. He is currently enjoying being a grandparent.
Greg taught schools in Kings County over a thirty-two year period. He taught every grade level from primary to grade 12. He was awarded a Hilroy Fellowship in 1986, a National award for innovations in education. He was also nominated for the Prime Ministers Award for teaching excellence. Greg has been an active volunteer over the course of his adult life, coaching hockey, gymnastics, soccer, track and field and softball. He has also taken a lead role as an anti-poverty activist as the chairperson of the valleys first Habitat for Humanity build and the Feed My Lambs Child Poverty initiative. He is a member of the Acadian Hockey Honour Roll. He has a BSc, a BEd and a Diploma in Special Education from Acadia University. Greg and his partner Deb have three adult daughters and six grandchildren.
Laura MacNutt, M.Arch., B.E.D.S.
Laura grew up in Dartmouth in a household overflowing with creativity. She and her daughter made a home in the Annapolis Valley for several years before returning to HRM. Among other degrees, Laura holds a Masters of Architecture from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.
Laura’s post secondary education began with Fine Art at both Mount Allison University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Her interest in Fine Art led to a Masters of Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design degrees. Both earned at the Technical University of Nova Scotia.
Laura’s professional design career has crossed several domains, including architecture, film, and teaching Fine Art in Canada and abroad.
Currently she owns and operates a boutique vintage shop named KingsPIER Curated Collections in Halifax. Laura describes this as the entrepreneurial culmination of a passion for heritage, artisanship, fashion, and sustainability. She refers to her inventory as “experienced haute couture”.
John Nichols
John Nichols is a well-known, long-term resident of Berwick and District. Following a successful career spanning four decades in the building supply industry and in land development John has continued giving his time and skills generously when volunteer opportunities arise. A recipient of several industry awards, he is recognized for his promotion of our local area, businesses and organizations.
Mr. Nichols owned and operated Berwick Building Supplies Ltd., for over 40 years until his retirement in 2014. Volunteering is an integral part of John’s life. He managed and coached both minor hockey and baseball for over 10 years and has served on many boards and committees including the Berwick and District Community Association; the Berwick Gala Day Committee; and the Canadian Cancer Society. John also served as a firefighter with the Berwick Volunteer Fire Department and on municipal committees including the Planning and Advisory Committees of the Town of Berwick and the County of Kings. Most recently, he was Chairman of the Building Committee for the Kings Mutual Century Centre (Phase 2). From 2014 to 2019, John played a significant role in the successful completion of this $5-million, multi-faceted expansion. As a graduate of Herdman Collegiate in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, he continued his studies with completion of a course in Architectural Drafting. John resides in south Berwick with his wife Joy.
Monica Savla
Monica Savla brings with her over 13 years of Finance operations, reporting and accounting experience. She’s a Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada & a Chartered Accountant from India.
She started her career with a public accounting firm followed by various organizations where she handled accounting, taxation, audit, financial reporting and analysis as well several leadership roles. She is currently working as a Financial Reporting Manager with Axis Capital and brings with her a wide range of experience.
On a personal note, Monica enjoys spending time with family, watch films, engage in DIY activities, listen to music and enroll in online training courses.
