GVM Seniors Foundation
The foundation is an independent charitable organization and a close friend to Grand View Manor. It was established in 1998 with George Moody as its first Chairperson. At that time it had the singular goal of raising the “seed money” required for Grand View Manor to attach a brand new Assisted Living Complex to GVM – the first of its kind in the province.
Once the seed funds had been realized, the need to continue working to improve the lives of Grand View Manor’s residents was identified by the Foundation. Many projects, big and small, have been accomplished during its 20 plus years of activity.
One of the Foundation’s most successful and enduring fundraisers is the annual golf tournament. Money raised has been used to:
- Purchase equipment such as tub baths for residents
- Develop and maintain a Memorial Garden
- Upgrade kitchen equipment
- Develop a Serenity Suite, built and furnished to provide dignified end of life care. (This room provides family members the privacy and space to be with their loved one. It has access to outdoors, its own bathroom and kitchenette, sofa beds and comfortable chairs)
- Purchase of a new GVM Bus, which the residents use for trips such as going to the zoo, shopping, visiting farms, and other places.
The Foundation is also working closely with the GVMCCC board to establish funds for a new Grand View Manor building.
Several potential projects are also being shepherded by the Foundation’s board members, including:
- A walkway around the property
- Wish Upon A Star (a resident’s wish can be granted through the foundation)
- A Woodworking shed
- A Community Garden
The Foundation also advocates for education advancement of students attending university through an annual bursary of $1,500.
